ONE OF THE GREAT the pleasures of going to a fine bar is watching a cocktail be tailor-made to your liking – the pour, the shake, the bewitching glamor of it all. But with the holiday season approaching, I wanted to address the question of how to make this magic practical for a crowd.
JM Hirsch, author of “Pour Me Another” (Greedy), came to the rescue. Mr. Hirsch posted a popular series of video tutorials on Instagram about “door-freezer” cocktails: pre-measured drinks ready to serve to a thirsty grou. It’s a brilliant solution. As Mr. Hirsch explained to me, many of us keep vodka in the freezer. Due to its high alcohol content, it does not turn into ice but cools to an ideal temperature. This is true of all high strength spirits.
