Jamie Chadwick has set a five-year F1 target to prove Stefano Domenicali wrong: PlanetF1

Jimmy Chadwick says she hopes to be in Formula 1 within five years despite recent comments from the sport’s chief executive.

For many, Chadwick is the most likely candidate for a shot at the most popular sports series. She has dominated the W Series, won the inaugural two championships, and has finished P1 in all but one of this year’s races.

She has F1 connections through her role as a development driver for Williams and at the age of 24, she has time on her side.

But, if F1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali is to be believed, you won’t be in serious dispute for a place in the Formula 1 grid anytime soon.

The newspaper quoted the 57-year-old Italian last month as saying that it would take a metaphorical “meteor” for a woman to be on the network in the next five years, with the last actress being Lella Lombardi 46 years ago.

But Chadwick is determined to prove him wrong. The Briton said Domenicali’s words did not “disturb” her but act as a catalyst.

“It doesn’t really bother me,” she said, as The Independent reported. “It motivates me, if nothing else.

“I know that if I get through the right feeding streak, I will be in Formula 1. And my goal is definitely to try to achieve that in five years.

“There is a lot that I need to achieve at that time, but I want to get into the right nutrient chain, have success in those championships to be in Formula 1.

“I need to rely on people who believe in it, and I really see it as possible, and surround myself with these voices.”

Nothing has been confirmed. I’m still considering my options. Talks are underway in both Europe and America.”

Although a seat at Williams was opened after Nicholas Latifi was confirmed to be out at the end of the season, it seems unlikely that Chadwick will be the one to step up.

Team boss Jost Capito said in March it needed to compete in Formula 3 “at some point” but Chadwick said she had not been able to secure a seat in F3 or F2 largely due to funding.

Instead, I signed another year of racing in the W Series on the newly created Jenner Racing team.

Moving to America appears to have become an increased possibility for Chadwick after she was given an Indy Lights test in Florida by Andretti Autosport on Wednesday.
