As the year draws to a close, Google published its annual “Year in Search” report, which details the most searched terms on Google in 2022 – including a section specifically highlighting the most searched receipts over the past year.
Some of the recipes probably made it to the top thanks to ICT Tacpop culture fans, and even an NFL team at Super Bowl.
The most searched recipe of 2022 was “sugo,” an Italian tomato sauce usually made with tomatoes, garlic, basil and olive oil.
Place #2 was “Cincinatti-style chili,” which offers a sweeter taste compared to the traditional chili pepper with spices like cinnamon, nutmeg and sometimes even cocoa powder. The search term got a big bump in February when the Cincinnati Bengals took on the Los Angeles Rams in the Super Bowl.

“Marry Me Chicken” an easy chicken breast recipe with herbs, garlic, sun-dried tomatoes, parmesan and heavy cream, was the third most searched recipe on Google in 2022. The dish achieved recipe status viral thanks to TikTok, with more than 59 million views of #MarryMeChicken videos. It was the latest a long list of chicken recipes which, according to modern legend, can inspire commitment in relationships.
Rounding out the top five were “quick pancake” and “Mango pie.” Specifically, “mango pie” saw a surge in search traffic in November when musician and “Song Exploder” podcast host Hrishikesh Hirway shared his mother’s recipe with CBS “Sunday Morning”.

Shortage of infant formula worries American parents
Infant formula has become scarce on store shelves as the United States now faces more shortages amid supply chain backlogs.
Besides worrying about a formula milk shortage, a shortage of tamponsand a shortage of AdderallAmericans also worried about the scarcity of their food.
Among the most searched “shortage” terms, “Sriracha Shortage” was listed as No. 5. In June, sriracha sauce maker Huy Fong Foods warned of an “unprecedented” shortage due to “several spiraling events, including an unexpected crop failure of the spring crop of the chilli pepper”.
Search expressions “Food shortage,” “Shortage of cream cheese,” “Shortage of lawyers” and “Shortage of lettucealso made the top 10.
Overall, Google’s most searched term of 2022 was – you guessed it – “Word”.
