AMERICUS – Former Georgia Southern Technical College and Georgia Highland Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach Demetrius Coulson has been appointed as the Junior College Women’s Basketball Ambassador for PCC (Player Coach Connection), an exclusive database and service for JUCO women’s basketball recruiting.
“We are very excited to bring in Demetrius! Center officials said his experience in women’s basketball at the junior college level will help increase the exposure of all women’s college basketball players.
Coulson began his basketball career as a player on the Georgia Southern Technical College Jets’ first collegiate basketball team in 2001 – 2002. He was captain of the team in 2002 – 2003 and was named All-Conference. He holds an associate’s degree in Computer Information Systems from SGTC and pursued his athletic career at Southwestern Georgia State University after graduating from South Georgia Tech.
He helped lead five different men’s and women’s basketball teams to the IAAF National Championships during his collegiate coaching career at South Georgia Tech and Georgia Highlands.
Coulson first came to work part-time at Georgia Southern Technical College in 2006 with former assistant coach Stephen Wright, who was hired as head coach. The Jets went to the NJCAA National Championship that season with a total number of 27-6 and finished in the elite eighth state championship.
He worked his way up from a part-time position with the men’s basketball team to become an assistant coach for the Lady Gates with Brandon Harrell in 2008. He and coach Harrell combined their skills and talent to lead the SGTC Lady Jets to their first ever NJCAA National Championship during the 2009-2010 season.
In 2012, Colson and Coach Harrell left SGTC to go to Georgia Highlands in Rome to found a women’s basketball team for USG’s new two-year college. They have achieved great success. Coulson returned to South Georgia Tech in 2019-2020 as an assistant coach with Lady Jets coach James Frey. Lady Gates qualified for the National Championship that year, again in 2020-2021 and 2021-2022.
