Dowe joins the Melbourne-based team in the role of Procurement Manager, responsibilities including managing parts inventory and facilitating the transition to the new Gen3 regulations for 2023.
His extensive experience includes stints in F1 with Insign, Brabham Wolf, Leger & Arrows, IndyCar with Chaparral and Newman Haas, and sports cars with Tom Walkenshaw Racing.
He also has experience in Supercars where he held roles with Kelly Racing and Walkinshaw Racing.
“I am happy to join Team 18, because I already know many people on the team,” Dowe said.
“It’s good to work with people who want to get done rather than just going to work every day.
“There is a new drive to get things right which makes walking through the door every day a great feeling.
“I was in my garage at home working on my go-kart and Dennis [Huijser, Team 18 crew chief] call me. I enjoyed working with him back in the Walkinshaw days and we have a very one-on-one relationship, and we really took it from there.
“It’s fun having someone pick up the phone and ask you to come in and help and be part of the growing structure of the team.
“The Gen3 is a huge job because it’s a complete car with very little carryover from anything else earlier. It’s an opportunity to put some structure into how we manage inventory, control what we order and take care of dollars and cents, because cash flow is always the thing we have to monitor.”
“I’ve been there and bought the jersey in a lot of other areas. I’m excited to find a situation where everything is going smoothly, we have all the parts we want in the timeframe we need rather than a last minute scramble.
“There are 97 working days until February 1 of next year, and that would be fatal for all teams in the ups and downs if you weren’t in the know.”
Charlie Schwerkolt, owner of Team 18, said having Dow on board will allow the performance side of the operation to focus on the remainder of the 2022 season.
“We are delighted that Tony has agreed to join Team 18, he has an impressive wealth of successful racing experience and is a valuable addition to our racing operations,” he said.
“With new developments emerging daily for Gen3, it has been critical for us to be up front in preparing to build the new cars without compromising our focus on the final three rounds of this year’s championship, and appointments like this will contribute to which – which.
“Having someone with Tony’s experience on the team is invaluable and we have no doubts that the entire team will be able to feed his years of success in all forms of motorsports to propel the team forward.”
