This event is jam-packed with rewards, unique weapons, and even has a new title for hardcore players to earn. It’s also an incredibly easy event, tying directly into all of Destiny 2’s activities with no micro-managing required. This guide will cover how the Dawning works, every ingredient and recipe you can find this year, and we’ll give god roll recommendations for all of this year’s Dawning weapons.

What Is The Dawning?

Destiny 2 The Dawning 2022 Tower

The Dawning is a winter holiday event that runs from December 13 to January 3. Guardians get to use Eva Levante’s holiday oven and bake delicious treats for Destiny 2’s various NPC vendors, providing Dawning gifts in return. Get your hands on five unique weapons, all of which received revised perk pools this year, and get your hands on a suite of different Dawning-themed Eververse armor sets.

Why Play This Event?

The Dawning is an excellent source of Masterwork materials and powerful weapons. Out of every Destiny 2 event, The Dawning is the least intrusive and arguably the most rewarding. Just by playing the game and defeating enemies, you’ll acquire ingredients to craft baked goods for various Tower vendors, exchanging them for caches of loot. Most of the weapons tied to this event are quite powerful as well, notable guns being Cold Front and Avalanche. We’ll cover the best perk combinations toward the end of the guide.

How To Get Dawning Ingredients

Destiny 2 Dawning Eva Levante

Before you get to make hundreds of Gjallardoodles for Zavala, you’re going to need an oven. Speak to Eva Levante in the Tower at any point during this event to receive the Eva Levante Oven 2.1. You can access the oven by inspecting it in your “Quests” tab.

From the oven, you’ll be able to bake various treats and experiment with different baking recipes. If you don’t see any baking recipes, you’ll need to combine different ingredients to discover them. For example, Gjallardoodles require you to socket Ether Cane and Delicious Explosion into the oven. You’ll also need Dawning Essence to bake anything, a currency you’ll receive by completing activities and daily Eva bounties.

Masterworking Eva’s Oven

Discovering every recipe will Masterwork the oven for the rest of the Dawning event, reducing the Dawning Essence cost of all recipes from 15 to 10.

Ingredients have a small drop chance upon defeating an enemy, no item required. The type of ingredient you receive depends on the enemy type slain, weapon/ability used, and the elemental type tied to your weapon or ability. Additionally, you can get your hands on random ingredients by completing daily bounties from Eva Levante.

Destiny 2 Dawning 2022 Quest

After baking your first batch of cookies, you’ll be given the “Cookie Delivery Helper” quest from Eva Levante, an event quest that lasts until the Dawning ends. Your goal with this quest is to bake every type of treat during this event, each step requiring you to bake different treats. The quest steps are as follows:

After creating all those treats, speak with Eva Levante at the Tower to Masterwork your Dawning oven and complete this quest. All future treats will cost fewer Dawning Essence to craft for the rest of this event.

All other recipes use the same ingredients as last year. For newcomers, you’ll want to bake every type of treat to Masterwork your oven, reducing Dawning Essence costs for baking future treats. Dawning Spirit And Event Upgrades

Destiny 2 Dawning Spirit

Dawning Spirit is an upgrade currency acquired by completing event challenges and Eva Levante bounties. Most event challenges grant five Dawning Spirit each. Weekly bounties grant ten Dawning Spirit, while daily bounties grant two each. Assuming you grind bounties on three characters daily, you can earn 24 Dawning Spirit from daily bounties and 60 from weeklies.

You’ll spend Dawning Spirit on upgrades from Eva Levante, enhancing resource drop rates or allowing you to take advantage of Stasis snowballs—orbs you can throw at PvE combatants to encase them in Stasis. All upgrades can be found below:

Best Dawning Weapon Rolls

Destiny 2 Dawning Stay Frosty Pulse

This year’s Dawning has five weapons for you to chase, most of which are returning weapons from previous years with reworked perk pools. This year’s new weapon is Stay Frosty, a Stasis variant of the Cold Denial Pulse Rifle. These weapons can drop from Dawning Gifts or individually focused from Eva Levante, provided you have reward focusing unlocked.

Stay Frosty God Roll

Destiny 2 Stay Frosty

Lightweight Pulses aren’t a meta pick in PvP currently, yet these weapons can shine in PvE content if you’re comfortable dueling combatants at medium distances. Stay Frosty is unique in that it’s the only Stasis Pulse Rifle that can roll with Golden Tricorn, providing a 50% damage buff if you can land a weapon and Stasis ability kill in quick succession. No reload perks exist in the first column, so your best bet is to pair Golden Tricorn with a consistency perk like Killing Wind or the recently reworked Encore. We prefer Encore since it gives +30 Range, Stability, and a massive accuracy buff for landing three kills.

For PvP, don’t expect this gun to top No Time to Explain or other meta picks. If you are a Pulse Rifle main and want a good 450, keep your eyes peeled for Tunnel Vision and Kill Clip. Golden Tricorn is also a decent pick in PvP if you can land Stasis ability kills.

Zephyr God Roll

Destiny 2 Dawning 2021 Zephyr Sword

If you’re farming this Sword, you’re looking for Cold Steel, full stop. This perk allows your Sword to inflict Slow with each strike, allowing you to freeze targets outright in a few slashes. Stasis freeze is absurdly powerful for crowd control, AoE shatter damage, and it even pulls Barrier Champions out of their barrier deployment animation, giving you a way to counter Barriers with no mods. The first column doesn’t matter as much. Common picks like Relentless Strikes and Tireless Blade are fine here. For raw DPS, use another Sword.

Glacioclasm God Roll

Destiny 2 Glacioclasm

Glacioclasm returns from previous Dawning events with mostly the same perk pool. The classic Reservoir Burst and Subsistence combo is back if you missed it last year, although you might want to consider Repulsor Brace and Golden Tricorn this year if you main a Void subclass. With the reworked Gyrfalcon’s Hauberk Exotic for Hunters and Titan’s easy access to Volatile, you can have 100% uptime on Repulsor Brace and benefit from the monstrous 50% damage buff provided by Golden Tricorn. Aim for a Stability Masterwork.

As for PvP, we don’t recommend farming for Glacioclasm currently. High-Impact Frames charge too slowly in the current sandbox, forcing you to pre-charge them before a gunfight. If you don’t mind that sort of playstyle, you’ll do best with Under Pressure and High-Impact Reserves.

Cold Front God Roll

Destiny 2 Cold Front

Cold Front is a Kinetic 750 RPM SMG with some awful base stats, but it has some great perks that allow you to offset this. Stats for All is downright required for PvE players, providing enough base stats to make Cold Front a much more consistent Primary. You can pair this with One for All for a 35% damage buff upon hitting three targets, turning this SMG into a powerful workhorse if you have enough targets to hit. Consider using the Counterbalance Stock mod on this gun to limit its horizontal recoil.

As for PvP, Cold Front has 14 zoom with medicore range and abysmal stability. The stability is so bad that you’re forced to spec for it through your perks, otherwise expect serious recoil and flinch in every duel. We recommend going for either Perpetual Motion or Tap the Trigger in the first column to increase the gun’s consistency. For the second column, Rangefinder is a solid pick for extending the gun’s effective range. Don’t sleep on Frenzy, as the general stat buffs feel fantastic on this gun. If you can consistently deal damage to targets—notably through Solar’s Scorch effect or the Hunter’s Gemini Jester Exotic—then Frenzy is your best option.

Avalanche God Roll

Destiny-2-Avalanche

Avalanche is a monstrous Machine Gun this year, rolling with some truly incredible PvE perks. Arguably the best perk here is Target Lock, providing a 10% damage buff that stacks as you damage the same target. At max stacks, you’re looking at a 50% damage multiplier, the same as x2 Golden Tricorn. Unlike the other Machine Guns this season, it’s feasible to hit max Target Lock stacks by using Ambitious Assassin on this gun, greatly increasing your magazine size if you can land a few multikills before reloading.

It’s also worth considering Cascade Point for PvE, providing a notable fire rate buff if you land precision hits with another weapon. Pair this perk with Auto-Loading Holster, and you have a surprisingly powerful burst DPS weapon for killing majors or Champions. You might even consider pairing this gun with the IKELOS Shotgun which also rolls with Cascade Point. You can hypothetically hotswap between both guns and have 100% uptime on Cascade Point, provided you keep landing headshots (or hit a Divinity cage). This likely won’t top Linear Fusion Rifles or Rocket Launchers for boss DPS, but it’s a unique combination we wanted to mention.

As for PvP, you can’t go wrong with Shot Swap and Tap the Trigger. Machine Guns are already quite lethal in PvP, so equipping Shot Swap to give your other weapons maximum handling can be extremely useful. Tap the Trigger is a solid option for easily landing long-range headshots, although feel free to use anything in the fourth column that suits your playstyle.
