5-star basketball player says official visit to Auburn was ‘fantastic’

Auburn, Alabama—One of the 2024 class basketball’s top prospects spent a weekend on the Auburn University campus and gave the trip high marks in multiple areas. joey billya five-star junior striker, is a potential client with a variety of college offerings.

“The visit was fantastic,” Bailey said of the time he spent checking out trainer Bruce Pearl’s tigers. “The fans showed love, coaches showed love and the basketball team showed love.

“I went to see the dorms, I went to the football game, and I had to hang out with some guys,” he said. “I ate well and well.”

Bailey, who turned 16 in August, said it continues to rise. He noted that he was “six feet 10 tall,” saying his doctor told him to expect the odds to grow to seven feet or seven feet.

It is ranked as the number eight overall probability in the 2024 class, according to 247 Sports, which puts it second in the world in the state of Georgia and no. 4 small forward in the nation.

Asked if his extra length meant he would change positions to a top striker or a central position, Bailey said, “I’ll keep a small striker and a big goalkeeper.”

Bailey, who is from McEachern High School in Powder Springs, indicated that he keeps his mind open about his college choice. “It depends on family trips,” he noted. “I’m a big family guy so I’m old enough for my family to come watch me play. I’m big on how I fit into the team. Will I like the atmosphere and how they treat me?”

Prospect said there is no doubt that he loves tigers. “Auburn is a program I look forward to. It is a big choice for me. My family and I are still open to colleges. We are still making our choices.”

Bailey said he has a “close” relationship with Auburn coach Bruce Pearl and noted that assistant coach Ira Bowman is heavily involved in hiring. “Coach Bowman is great,” said Bailey. “He’s a great guy, a great family guy, and a great coach.”

Commenting on his weekend on the Plains, he said, “I love everything about Auburn, especially the fans. They were shouting my name, showing me love, taking my pictures and everything.”

As he heads into the junior season of high school competition, what is Billy focusing on in terms of skills? “I’m screwing up everything – getting off the screens and shooting the ball deeper, the little things,” he said. When asked what he’s good at on the basketball court, the five-star recruit said, “Everything.”
